better setts IMO

1 First open the steam window and click games
2 now right click on counter strike source and then click properties
3 A window should pop up
4 From here click "Set Launch options"
5 A small window will come up ...

EXAMPLE " -dxlevel81 -tickrate 100 -gl

-dxlevel 90 = Directx 9.0
-dxlevel 81 = Directx 8.1 =best...Graphics and performance!!!!unless you have uber fast comp wit no lag..Geno.....!
-dxlevel 80 = Directx 8.0
-dxlevel 70 = Directx 7.0

-tickrate 100 smooths it all out....

-gl use if u have a NVIDIA graphics card....
-d3d use for ATI gfx card

-refresh "Refresh Rate"= only use if you know what your monitor can handle...

AMD 64 3500+
1 GB DDR 400
320GB Western Digital 7200 RPM SATA
nVidia GeForce 7800gt
DVD R/RW CD R/RW SATA
Some crappy psu that can barely handle all that^

Sometime soon I plan on upgrading the cpu/ram/psu to..
AMD 64 X2 4600
2 GB DDR2
Some beastly 600 watt psu :P
Some beastly mobo that'll take ddr2 :o

COM | Rushin'n 09-10-2006 10:51 AM

rawrrrr nooooooo dont get the dual core!!!!!! EVILLLL!!! G3nocid3 will hit you with his keyboard if u get dual core lol!!!!!seriously....lmao he mite throw a muffin that has a tapeworm in it at u!...!

o man. I might have to just for him considering it.

Id rather see him get a mac. HAHA.

seriously, 4600 is 2 slow cpus on one die. rather have one fast than 2 slow. : D until the fx-70 comes out in a year or so i wont get a dual core.

Homizide 09-10-2006 08:36 PM

hey I have a mac. :mad: and I run CSS on linux! :D screw M$ im going home...

COM | T3h1337rMuffin! 09-11-2006 09:37 PM

I have a mac, a pc, a commadore 64, a nintendo 64 with unix on it, 3 pc's 10 servers, 3 cisco 3000 series switches, 2 smc tiger switch atm's , 4 linksys rack mount 8 port switches, 2 at&t 48 port and 1 200 port switch, a interphase box, and a WHOPPING 900 A month power bill :D , o and not to mention my gaming pc that has 2 turbo cool 510 psu's and 2 devanni 468 watt psu's running it all in sync :)

hahahaha

Ive run css on mac, linux, freebsd, and trying to get cs2d on my slivr. I just need to get more storage on it. : D

COM | T3h1337rMuffin! 09-11-2006 09:37 PM

homozide go to my site. Ill pm you the url. Check my mac if your a mac fan.

chrisharper23 09-12-2006 02:36 AM

The Dual cores are fine.

Alt u need to bump up higher than 6800s. Unless you already have them its a waste. You could get a 7900GT and OC it and have better results.

COM | T3h1337rMuffin! 10-01-2006 12:26 AM

I doubt you could get a better result than the 6800 ultras. They have more oc capable setup. Plus a dual slot cooler standard. Even with a gig of onboard ddr the card would be too much faster, plus the 1 gig is dual gpu. I still want to see anyone hit 428 fps at over 1600x1200 res with max graphics and HDR enabled. Those are rates only quad sli gets. I did that with a heavily over clocked 3500+ oc to 3.8 ghz running 139f with AC Delco Coolant in 4x 120 mm fan radiator, 1 in tubing, and a 800 gph magnetic powered pump. Even vapor cooling cant reach that temp with that oc. (Tried it). I now have an fx-53 courtesy of my good buddy, so Ima see if I can break the 500 fps mark.

(Also mind that I mention I was using an agp slot for those bench marks. You should see my 3d max ratings. Obsene to say that at the least.)

I will be running a Dual custom made 1 gig ddr onboard each card 6800 Ultra setup with dual custom 1 1/2 inch barb water blocks. I will be running a custom machined 100 % copper water block for the cpu with 1 1/2 inch barbs also. Hopefully obtain 4.0 ghz without frying my cpu. (yes it is possible to run 4 is anyone disagrees, My buddy at amd did on a test rig he built up.

Ok, all Im trying to say with all that, is that just cuz something is the newest and fastest clock speed, dosent make it the best. Which is a reason why all my buddies I know at amd, and intel run single cores and 6800 ultras. Not cuz they dont have the money for the newest stuff, heck they get most of it for free, they just found the older products easier to manipulate. (Now the people I know from apple are for dual core, but heck, who wouldnt run a quad dual core setup capable of speeds no pc on earth can catch up to. :)

Why do you have so many switches if you only have 10 servers?!

chrisharper23 10-02-2006 12:55 PM

Alt didn't say anything about a 6800Ultra just 2x6800... I dunno Alt were you talking about Ultras?

Either way, The new 7950 will blow a 6800Ultra AWAY! And we're not talking about an advanced setup here with phase changers and the likes. Just a standard setup. Its just the price for the 6800s which ever he wants.

Side note: If you already have the 6800s then rock out.

Its just buying 2 gpus, a sli ready mobo ( if not owned ) and a good sli psu would be a lot more than buying lets say a 7950 or a X1900XTX.

For that price though you could get a 8800GT which will be available soon and cost from 450-500 and be DX10 ready core 1.5ghz and enable HDR+AA. Something Nvidia has been behind ATI in.

Also COM check out the new 8800s. The GTX which will be above 600$ comes with LIQUID cooling on the HSF.

http://www.io2technology.com/

Here's a quick break down for those interested.
* Unified Shader Architecture
* Support FP16 HDR+MSAA
* Support GDDR4 memories
* Close to 700M transistors (G71 - 278M / G70 - 302M)
* New AA mode : VCAA
* Core clock scalable up to 1.5GHz
* Shader Peformance : 2x Pixel / 12x Vertex over G71
* 8 TCPs & 128 stream processors
* Much more efficient than traditional architecture
* 384-bit memory interface (256-bit+128-bit)
* 768MB memory size (512MB+256MB)
* Two models at launch : GeForce 8800GTX and GeForce 8800GT
* GeForce 8800GTX : 7 TCPs chip, 384-bit memory interface, hybrid water/fan cooler, water cooling for overclocking. US$649
* GeForce 8800GT : 6 TCPs chip, 320-bit memory interface, fan cooler. US$449-499

I get wood just reading that =)

I still can't believe I haven't finished my rig yet... been working (i.e. spending tons of cash) on my car recently.

What I stated was that I will be getting *minimally* dual nVidia 6800s. Ideally I'd like to pick up a couple of 7900GTs or something but money always factors into it. In a year or two 7900s will be old news, just like the 6800s today.

COM | T3h1337rMuffin! 10-03-2006 05:10 PM

let me mention my 6800 ultra will still be faster when the 8800's out. You wont be able to get faster than my 6800 until mid - late 07. Nvidia rep confirmed that with me, not that they will with you. they have to make money off of gullible people anyways. haha.

Lets hope you're not calling me gullible.... Run some 3dmark 05/06 no extra ****, oc the video card, if you're doing sli, run one. I want to see what your video card would get. Keep in mind cpu's rate differently.

Hi, I'm not sure how old this topic is but I was wondering if you will need to download directx8.1 if you put it on that setting. Great tutorial btw.
