Default Is Dual Core Worth It?

So im stuck between the descion of an AMD 64 X2 4400+ or an AMD 64 4000+, i was wondering if all that extra money for the 4400 is really worth it for gamming, since thats mostly what ill be doing with this computer. Or is dual core just for the complex business stuff and what not. I really dont do much multitasking anyways, so im leaning towards the 4000. Any opinions?

you dont need a dual core for gaming its not gonna improve performance, you should get an amd 64 fx instead of a regular 64, the fx is designed for gaming. A dual core would be good for running a couple of cpu intensive programs at the same time, but your not gonna see improved performance from games.

If you have CPU intensive stuff going on in the background, then it'll help.

Well, I just ordered all my new comp stuff this week, and here's what i went with:

CPU = AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core
MB = Asus A8N-SLI Premium
Vid Card = XFX GeForce 7800 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI-E
PSU = Antec TP-II 550 Watt ATX12V v2.0 PSU

I do a lot of multi-tasking, so i went with the dual core CPU.
